President’s Advisory Council
The President's Advisory Council has agreed that the practice of departments requesting reserved parking for VIP visitors through Campus Safety is not working. Placing cones at spots throughout the campus to reserve parking is ineffective because visitors do not like to remove cones, the spots frequently are unused, and students, faculty, and staff complain vociferously about reserved spots sitting empty all or most of the day. Effective September 4, 2012, this practice will be discontinued in favor of establishing a 22 space visitor lot west of Main Hall. Visitor parking in this lot will be by permit only, and will be administered by the Office of the President. Only the six vice presidents, three academic deans, Dean of Libraries, and Dean of Students may request permit issuance for visitors. Departments reporting to these individuals must work through them for visitor permits. Visitors eligible for permits are external parties who are providing direct support to the University's academic or operational programs.
Permits must be requested from the Office of the President a minimum of three business days prior to the scheduled visit. The Office of the President will need the name(s) of the visitor(s); the event, sponsoring department, and name of the individual responsible for the event; and the date and time of the visit. Name, date, and time specific permits will be emailed to the individual responsible for the event, who will provide the permit(s) to the visitor(s) for placement on their dashboards. The visitor lot will be strictly enforced, and vehicles without permits will be towed.
There will be no change to existing processes for and access to the short-term visitor spaces currently located throughout the Lowell Campus outside of the designated visitor lot.
