Read how Balajee brought his world from India to pursue his educational dream at Regis.

Balajee Madhavan, an international student from India, began his Master of Science degree in Software Engineering at Regis in January 2016.  His hard work and determination in India prepared him to seek his dream of studying in the United States. The day that he received his acceptance letter to Regis University, followed by his F-1 visa approval, Balajee was on his way to living his dream in America. Read about his story below.

During high school, I developed a great interest in the field of Computer Science and Engineering. This turned into a strong desire to pursue a Master of Science degree in the U.S.  I chose my Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and Engineering and graduated in 2014 from Anna University in Chennai, India. To gain hands-on experience, I worked as a Network Engineer in India while preparing for the GRE and IELTS exams. My parents motivated me not to give up on my dream, and their motivation prepared me even more. In 2015, I began working with Amazon, and that is when I received admission to Regis University.  It was the biggest day in my life, and I will cherish that moment forever.

I wanted to study in the U.S. because it is the leading country and land of opportunity in the field of computer and technology. Many great inventors, scientists, and experts came from here. I believe that the U.S. has the best education system where students learn by experience and practice. They learn by real life scenarios. It is important to gain practical experience more than theories  I also heard that professors are very good and give the best guidance to students. These unique things about the U.S. education system made me develop a strong desire to do my Master’s here.

I chose Regis University because of the Jesuit education. I had studied under Jesuit education since elementary school until college. It molded me into a better person that I am today. The best parts of Regis have been my professors and the beautiful campus. My professors at Regis have always been there for me when I needed them. I am so thankful for their kindness and guidance. They were also my source of hope at times. I have never felt alone here.  Choosing Regis University to do my Master’s degree is the best decision that I made in life. I am so grateful.

After I graduate, I am going to concentrate on my career. My thirst for knowledge is never-ending. After getting a job and securing money, I want to pursue my MBA at Regis University.

My advice to incoming international students is that people from the U.S. are really very kind and tolerant towards all people and their culture. They accept persons as who they really are and appreciate everything with an open heart. Anyone who comes here will have a feeling of being home. Regis University is a friendly environment and has many great resources – library, writing center, helpdesk, and so much more. Someone is always here to support us in our times of need. I have gained not only knowledge at Regis but also so many priceless experiences.
