Becoming Engaged Citizens

Ignatian Village Community Living

Ignatian Village is an off-campus housing option for students who want to take the next step in developing their social awareness, professional aspirations, and leadership experiences.  Ignatian Village is comprised of two Living Learning Communities (LLCs): Ignatian Leadership and Healthcare Professions.  Together, these communities are committed to making an impact to the local communities and contributing to the greater good of society.  The houses get their namesake from  St. Ignatius of Loyola, founder of the Jesuits, with this being said  it is expected that all residents strive to take the Jesuit principle, “Being in service for and with others,” and extend it to their home lives.

Both communities require additional involvement beyond occasional programming.  Students invest a few hours each week in connecting with housemates and working on community goals.

Below are highlights of the Ignatian Village houses:

  • Various off-campus houses located within a couple blocks for the main campus populated by sophomore, junior and senior students.
  • Co-ed by house with shared bathrooms, full kitchen, living room, and dining room.
  • Living rooms are furnished with couch, chairs and coffee table. Common spaces are furnished with a couch, chairs, coffee table, end tables, and a dining room set.
  • The kitchens consist of a full-size refrigerator, oven, microwave and dishwasher.
  • Bedrooms are furnished with extra-long twin beds, chest of drawers, bookshelf, desk and chair.
  • Each house is equipped with cable in the living room, a landline phone, and wireless internet throughout the house.
  • Each house offers an on-site washer and dryer.
  • Students 21 or older are permitted to have beer and wine in the house.

IGNATIAN LEADERSHIP LLC

The purpose of the Ignatian Leadership LLC is to provide a Living Learning Community environment that supports student development, community standards, civility, service, and leadership, all while following the University’s mission of asking ourselves, “How ought we to live?”

Ignatian Leadership offers regular house meals, various service projects, social activities, community outreach, and retreats.  Additionally, there are opportunities for leadership within the community and time for connection with faculty members.

HEALTHCARE PROFESSIONS LLC

This community is for anyone who is majoring in a health profession (Nursing, Pre-med, Neuroscience, Pre-pharmacy, etc). This community will foster the exploration and development of the knowledge and professionalism that is at the center of a healthcare worker’s career. Programming will include exploring the health profession culture surrounding the Denver area, bringing in local professionals from the field, hosting study sessions, and involving faculty through meals and programs.
