The commuter student services program at Regis University seeks to provide opportunities for interaction,
integration, and enrichment for commuter students in order to provide an environment on campus in
which commuter students are able to develop emotionally, spiritually, and cognitively in support of the
Jesuit idea of Cura Personalis, or care for the whole person.
A commuter student is defined as a student who does not live on campus. This can include:
- first and second year traditional students who live at home with parents or other family
- juniors and seniors who live off (but usually near) campus; and
- adult students who drive to one of Regis’ campuses.
Commuter Student Services works to serve commuter students at Regis by striving:
- to provide opportunities for integration and enrichment within the Regis community
- to advocate and serve as a resource for commuter students in the development of programming student spaces, and campus wide resources
- to serve as a point of contact and involvement for commuter students and the surrounding community
Learning outcome goals will be organized around the following themes – in line with the overarching learning outcomes outlined by the Division of Student Life:
Socio-cultural inclusion and respect, leadership, civic engagement, self-awareness, and community
integration.
Through their interaction with Commuter Affairs, commuter students at Regis University will:
- be able to navigate the Regis Community in order to identify resources and opportunities for integration
- exhibit leadership skills, acting as agents of change within the Regis community
- demonstrate skills necessary to live and function in community
- appreciate diversity as well as demonstrate respect, tolerance, and appreciation for individuals cultures, and communities different than their own
Commuter Assistants (CA) serve as resources in integrating and connecting commuter students to the Regis community, and to assist commuter students in their development based upon the learning outcome goals stated above. CA's will assist in staffing the commuter lounge, disseminating information to commuter students through a commuter Facebook site, emails, and the formation of intentional commuter student communities. Commuter Assistants will be responsible for planning and implementing, with the assistance of the Assistant Director for Judicial and Commuter Affairs, programs addressing the learning outcomes stated above.
