Regis Distance Students
Regis University accepts credit from Challenge, CLEP, DSST and NLN exams. Please contact the Testing Center at 1-800-967-3237 Ext. 4375 with any questions about these testing options. It is highly recommended that students consult with their advisor prior to registering for any exam for degree plan compatibility.
Regis Challenge Exams:
Regis University Challenge Exams have been prepared addressing the outcomes of specific CPS courses, and are only available for CPS students. For a list of specific exams, go to the Exam List & Study Guide. A student is allowed only one attempt to pass a Challenge exam. If a "No-Pass" grade is awarded, the exam cannot be repeated. As part of the registration for a Challenge Exam you are required to submit an essay between 150-200 words explaining your experience, qualification, and background that would qualify you to challenge the course.
Challenge Exams have several formats: take-home, proctored at an approved site, or a combination of both. A take-home exam is emailed to the student by 8AM on the test date specified on the registration confirmation. The date the exam must be returned is stated within the email. A completed take-home exam can be returned via email or mail. A copy of the original exam must be included with the completed exam packet. Students who want to challenge an exam that is part proctored, part take-home must complete the proctored part before receiving the take-home part. The proctored section of the exam must be held at an approved testing site. The take-home portion will be given to the student thereafter.
Some Challenge Exams need to be proctored. Please contact a local college or testing center to verify if proctor services are offered. Once you have established where and when you can take the exam, send an email to Regis University Testing Center at testing@regis.edu stating the date you would like to test and the contact information of the individual proctoring your exam. NOTE: A proctor CANNOT be a friend, family member, roommate or spouse.
Registration for a distance student taking a proctored Challenge Exam is two-fold. The student must register online with Regis University to pay for the exam, then register with the facility proctoring the exam. Please contact the testing facility proctoring your exam directly for their rules, registration and fees.
Students must bring two forms of ID, one being a photo ID, when they arrive for the exam. After the exam is completed, the proctor will return the exam directly back to Regis University Testing Center. Notification of exam results will be sent via mail and can take up to four to six weeks from the date of receipt.
Note: Students who do not pass a Challenge Exam, may not utilize the PLA portfolio service on the same course challenged. If the course challenged is a requirement within the student’s major, and the student does not pass, the course must be taken at Regis University.
COM 210 Speech Communication Challenge Exam
Distance Students wanting to take the COM210 Speech Challenge Exam will need to download the COM210 Information Packet for Distance Students. The expectations and instructions provided for this exam are specified in detail within the packet. Carefully follow these instructions in preparing your speech and outline.
NOTE: A COM210 Speech Challenge Exam received from a distance student will not be submitted for grading unless the paperwork within the packet is complete. A checklist has been provided within the Information Packet. Please include a clear copy of your Driver's License for identification purposes.
It is not necessary to have a professional quality video recording made, but do have your volunteer camera operator steady the camera, and pan your audience several times during the speech. EDITED TAPES WILL NOT be eligible for credit. Remember that only V.H.S, Mini D. V. or DVD media will be accepted for grading.
NOTE: The distance COM210 option is only available for students who do not live in Colorado.
