Real People. Lasting Impact. Tavara Gerfen, CPS ’15 Tavara Gerfen has experienced more life trauma than most. From a difficult childhood to a near fatal car accident and aggressive cancer, she has been challenged in countless ways. Gerfen originally planned to pursue a career in dentistry but due to lifelong physical injuries and a traumatic brain injury sustained from a car accident, she was unable to pursue her dream. Having always been an active volunteer and mentor, Gerfen discovered the Master of Nonprofit Management (MNM) program at Regis University. A scholarship not only changed her life financially, but emotionally as well and allowed her to pursue her new dream of working in the nonprofit sector. Shortly before starting the program she was diagnosed with a rare form of breast cancer, yet began taking classes anyway. Today, Gerfen is out of treatment and is a proud graduate of the MNM program. “I have a different perspective as a cancer survivor – I wake up every day feeling impossibly lucky and I try to inspire others every single day. Receiving my scholarship to attend Regis confirmed that I was on the right path. I am excited to change the world with my new degree and make Regis University proud.” Your support impacts students each day and helps create leaders in service of others who impact their communities and the world.
