(DENVER) -- On April 24, 2013 the University Research and Scholarship Council (URSC), the Office of Academic Grants, and the Office of the Provost hosted the annual Regis University Celebration of Research, Scholarship and Creative Excellence.

The event, created to recognize and celebrate the research and hard work taking place at Regis University, featured presentations by students and faculty, remarks from Fr. John Fitzgibbons, S.J., president of Regis University, and Patricia Ladewig, provost, and an awards ceremony for faculty.

The presentations were done in five poster and platform sessions throughout the morning and afternoon, each featuring four to six presentations followed by poster viewing sessions.   The presenters shared their work on a variety of topics, ranging from chemistry and biology to the artistic expression of culture and identity.  Many of the presenters at the event were URSC grant recipients whose efforts were supported by special university funds.  More than 100 faculty members from across campus attended the reception..

Following the presentations and Father Fitzgibbons’ speech, Don Bridger, director of the Office of Academic Grants, presented awards to two faculty members.  The Excellence as a Leader in Promoting Research and Scholarship, 2013 New Faculty Research Award was presented to Leah Sheridan.  Bridger also presented the Excellence as a Leader in Supporting Student Experiential Laboratory Learning, 2013 Faculty Research Award to Fred Gray.
