Regis Trustee Ordained

June 06, 2016

Denver, June 6, 2016 – Regis University Trustee and former Nursing affiliate faculty Jason Brauninger, S.J., joins a diverse group of 20 candidates from the United States, Canada, the Philippines, Puerto Rico, Haiti, Colombia and Costa Rica in being ordained as a Jesuit priest this month.

Previous to becoming an ordained priest, Brauninger was a nurse and fire, arson and explosion investigator. But over time, a new fire burned in his heart and called him to a life of faith as well as service.

Brauninger studied fire science and trained as an investigator at Eastern Kentucky University and fought his first fire at age 18. After graduation in December 2004, he traveled in Europe, worked with a U.S. group that repairs homes for people in need, and then entered the Jesuit novitiate in August 2005. He studied philosophy and theology at Saint Louis University, completed the one-year accelerated nursing program and became a cardiac care nurse.

Brauninger, worked as a trauma nurse at St. Anthony Hospital in Lakewood, Colorado and has travelled on medical missions to both Nepal and Haiti.
