Wilcots has worked in higher education for more than 20 years

Barbara Wilcots, PhD, joined Regis University as its vice president for Student Affairs on July 1. With a passion for working with students, Wilcots will lead the departments of Student Life, Military and Veterans Affairs, Campus Safety and Auxiliary Services.

“I’m really excited to come on board,” said Wilcots. “I’m looking forward to joining a faith-based institution committed to something that has been a focus in my life: social justice.”

Wilcots brings more 20 years in higher education, including more than a decade in leadership roles at the University of Denver, where she was most recently the associate provost for graduate studies. Wilcots has experience working with different student populations, particularly post-traditional and online students. Her strengths include developing an inviting environment to help students navigate college and creating co-curricular programming.

“I see my role at Regis as being someone who advocates for students to receive a superior college experience that prepares them for a fulfilling and meaningful life,” Wilcots said.

“I hope the students see me as someone who listens, cares and advocates for their needs. Listening doesn’t always mean agreeing, so students may not get everything they want, but I want them to be assured that their voices are heard, considered and valued. Certainly, students will grow from their college experience, but I hope they also contribute their ideas and voices to making the institution better.”

In her first weeks and months in the new position, Wilcots plans to do a lot of listening: to learn what she can about Regis to help the University better serve its entire community.

“I will meet with everyone who will open their doors to me so I can get an understanding from multiple perspectives about what is needed,” Wilcots said.
