Denver is full of happy people. This notion is so ubiquitous, we needn’t back it up with percentages or a source. It’s common knowledge. And in pondering the reasons for our sunny disposition (300 days of sunny, to be exact), we can’t help but think it might have something to do with our location. 

Many researchers have found that your proximity to nature has quite a lot to do with your mental health. One study conducted at Stanford, published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Science, found that people who chose to walk for 90 minutes in a natural area showed decreased activity in a region of the brain associated with depression. Their studies also concluded that general time in nature had a positive effect on mood and aspects of cognitive function, including dampening anxiety and improving memory function. 

Hike anyone?
