Regis students find opportunity in bilingual education

“The education I am receiving from Regis is making a difference in my life,” says student Alfonso E. Salazar. “It is making me strong as a professional, and preparing me for obstacles I might face.”

Regis University is in the business of turning obstacles into opportunities. The Dual Language Accelerated Program, based at Regis’ Thornton Campus, is proof of that. This unique program is designed to serve the needs of adult students who see opportunity in bilingual education. Each semester, students take half their classes in English and half in Spanish, ensuring both linguistic and academic fluency in their respective fields of study. Evening and Saturday classes offered in five- and eight-week accelerated course formats make education convenient in spite of busy lives. Developed in partnership with New Ventures, this innovative learning model is the first of its kind in Colorado higher education.

“Our students want to grow professionally and personally,” says Marketing and Recruitment Director Ludy Yevara. “They want to improve their lives.” To do so, students choose from a variety of bachelor’s and master’s programs in business, education, health and technology. Business is the most popular field, but interest is strong across the board as the demand for bilingual employees continues to grow.

There are currently 121 students enrolled in the program. Many of those students are originally from other countries, including Mexico, Peru, El Salvador, Venezuela and Colombia, while others are Colorado natives. All of them have a shared goal – to create better lives for themselves and their families. Regis University is proud to help them achieve that goal.
