Nursing graduate Christy Henzgen is eager to use her Regis education in the service of others

Name: Christy Henzgen

Graduation date: May 2014

Degree: Bachelor of Science in Nursing

How did you discover your passion for nursing and what do you love most about the profession?
I encountered some health issues my sophomore year and decided I wanted to pursue a career in medicine. I fell in love with nursing because it’s a profession of service. I love that I have the ability to touch lives every time I step on the floor. I am excited to live out the Jesuit value of being a woman in service of others.

Who has inspired you along your journey?
I have been inspired by each professor I have had. Every faculty member who works here teaches because they believe in what Regis stands for. They encourage us to look beyond what we are learning and challenge us to use it to better the world around us. During the last four years I have been challenged to express my opinions, hear the opinions of others and grow into a confident young woman of faith.

What are your plans post-graduation?
I plan to stay in Colorado and work as an RN in a local hospital. In the next few years I hope to become an emergency room nurse.

What has been your most memorable Regis experience?
My most memorable experiences have been service spring break trips. I have had the opportunity to serve in Texas, Louisiana, Hawaii and New York with different groups of students. These experiences put life in perspective, pushed me out of my comfort zone and helped me learn the importance of service to others. Every year was wonderful in a different way. I made lifelong friends, was immersed in new cultures, and grew in faith as I reflected on the work and experience of each day.
