Women’s Basketball Drops 71-70 to Mines in Overtime

Sarah Otterman | January 11, 2013

Ranger women's basketball (6-6, 5-3 RMAC) lost a tough game tonight 71-70 to the Orediggers of Colorado School of Mines after taking the game into overtime.

Regis was up 30-28 over Mines going into the second half.  With one minute left in the game, Oredigger Courtney Gallo hit a three to go up 59-57 over the Rangers.

The Rangers took the ball down the court and handed it over to senior Meghan Hollenga who was fouled and given an opportunity at the line.  She made both her free throw attempts to even the score and send the game into overtime.

Mines outscored the Ranger 12-11 in overtime for the win on the night.

As a team, the Rangers hit 38.7 percent from field goal range, 25.0 percent from long distance and 80.0 percent from the charity stripe.

Senior Sarah Feeney earned another double-double this season after scoring 24 points and pulling down 10 rebounds.  She hit seven-for-13 from the field, seven-for-nine from the charity stripe, and also put up one three.

Juniors Tae'lor Purdy and Brandi Collins also saw double digit points for the Rangers.

Purdy hit four from field goal range, three from three-point range and went four-for-four from the free throw line for her 15 points.  She also pulled down six defensive rebounds and two steals.

Collins had 14 points on the night after hitting six from the field and one from long distance as well as the charity stripe.  She had three assists and one steal.

Leading the Rangers with 13 rebounds was senior Kara Larson.  She also had eight points, two assists and two steals.

Hollenga finished with eight rebounds and six points on the night.
