Research & Scholarship

D. Gladys Frantz-Murphy, PhD, specializes in Middle East and World History from an environmental perspective.  She is currently working on her third book, The Middle East in World History:  An Environmental Perspective. A former Fulbright Scholar in Egypt, she presents her research on the pre-modern Middle East at international conferences in the US, Europe, and the Middle East, and has been an invited participant in international seminars and a key note speaker at national and international conferences on the history of the Middle East.

Research & Scholarship

Her research and extensive publications focus on the pre-modern economic, social, legal, and cultural history of the Islamic world.  Dr. Frantz-Murphy is also regularly invited to speak at academic seminars and congresses in the US, Europe, and the Middle East, most recently in Egypt, Tunisia, and Vienna.

Course(s) Taught

Gladys offers courses on the Middle East, World History From an Environmental Perspective, and, Sustainable Agriculture, among others.  Her students have an opportunity to  compete in Simulations of the Arab League that are held at Universities around the county.
