Professional Bio

Heidi Pitlor is a senior editor at Houghton Mifflin and has been the series editor of The Best American Short Stories since 2007, working with such authors as Alice Sebold, Richard Russo, Salman Rushdie, and Elizabeth Strout. She published her first novel, The Birthdays (W.W. Norton) in 2006, and her second, The Daylight Marriage (Algonquin Books), in 2015. Her writing has also appeared in such publications as Ploughshares, The Huffington Post, Labor Day: True Birth Stories by Today's Best Women Writers, The Boston Globe and The New York Times. She lives outside Boston. Heidi enjoys working with students on fiction that is strong on character, voice, and story.
