Natalia Sylvester is the author of the novel, Chasing the Sun, which was chosen as the Best Debut book in Latinidad’s Best Books of 2014. Her essays and interviews with authors have been published in Latina magazine, Writer’s Digest, The Writer, and NBCLatino.com.
Born in Lima, Peru, Natalia came to the U.S.A. at age four and grew up in Miami, Florida. During her time as an undergrad studying creative writing at the University of Miami, she completed her senior thesis—a series of linked short stories that evolved into a novel that, eight years and countless rewrites later, was published as her debut.
She now lives in Texas with her husband and their two rescue dogs. A former magazine editor with a journalism background, Sylvester is fascinated by the role of truth in fiction and fiction in truth. She is most excited by work that expands a reader’s capacity for empathy and inspires a better understanding of worlds, stories, and voices that are underrepresented.
