Research and internships provide valuable opportunities. We believe that teaching, research, and the professional environment are interconnected. Students develop their own independent research projects in courses and are encouraged to participate in research with faculty members or internships outside of Regis. Interaction between students and faculty members outside the classroom are frequent and encouraged. The Denver metropolitan area offers numerous sites for research and internship experience, where they use the skills and experience gained in courses and through research with faculty at Regis.
For more information concerning internship opportunities in Regis College please see the Internship Program Office pages.
In courses students are trained to develop their own independent research projects in their courses and are encouraged to participate in research collaboration with faculty members. The Biology Department offers three majors and a minor; a B.S. in Biology Major, a research-focused Honors-in-Biology Major, a B.A. in Biology Major and a Biology Minor. For degree program requirements , view the Biology Program Requirements.
Biology, the study of life, encompasses a broad spectrum of fascinating fields such as Ecology, Evolution, Systematic Biology, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Genetics, Developmental Biology, Physiology, Anatomy, and Immunology. These fields only represent a portion of the courses offered in Biology. For a complete list of courses, view the Biology Course Descriptions.
As a result of the substantial donation by the Pomponio Family and other donors the Science Building was remodeled in 2008 and renamed the Felix Pomponio Family Science Center, providing an up-to-date learning and research environment. The faculty were closely involved in the design of the laboratories to ensure that the remodeled laboratories best meet the needs of both 21st-century science and a challenging undergraduate biology curriculum. The remodel also involved a significant upgrade in the Biology Department equipment for teaching allowing the purchase of new student-use Leica microscopes, student-use molecular biology equipment (micropipette sets, vortex mixers, microcentrifuges, and ceramic sterilizers), a research-grade fluorescent microscope, plant growth chambers, and other equipment. the establishment of an endowment in 2007 to fund equipment upgrades also means that we will be able to continue to maintain the most current equipment for student use in our laboratory courses.
