We believe that it is important to not only embrace diversity as part of the living, learning and working environment, but also to celebrate it through special activities and commemorations. Members of the Regis University as well as the Denver community are invited and encouraged to participate in these activities.
September 15-October 15 is National Hispanic Heritage Month. Numerous activities that highlight the history and contributions of people of Spanish decent are organized by members of the Regis University community.
Each year Regis University celebrates the lives and contributions of women. Beginning as Great Women of Spirit Week, the variety of activities have expanded to cover the entire month of March.
St. Patrick’s Day is named for St. Patrick, the second Bishop of Ireland, whose mission lasted more than 30 years. At Regis University the day is celebrated with gatherings that focus on Irish culture. A tradition is the Provost’s St. Patrick’s Day party for faculty and staff, complete with traditional Irish step dancers.
Cinco de Mayo is commonly referred to as Mexican Independence Day. The holiday of Cinco De Mayo, The Fifth Of May, commemorates the victory of the Mexicans over the French army at The Battle Of Puebla in 1862. Regis University celebrates on this day with a number of activities that highlight and celebrate Mexican culture.
Each year in January, Regis University devotes one week of activites to the memory and legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The activites highlight Dr. King’s belief in equality and justice for all people.
Americans have recognized Black history annually since 1926, first as "Negro History Week" and later as "Black History Month." Now the month of February both nationally and at Regis University has come to be a time to learn, reflect and share the true spirit and impact of people of African decent and their contributions to societies around the world.
