Students of Color Welcome Dinner

Sunday, Septmber 14

This welcome dinner/reception will be a wonderful opportunity for students of color and thier allies to meet other Regis faculty, staff and students of color at Regis. It will also serve as an opportunity to learn about numerous programs taking place in the upcoming school year and about groups and activities of which any student might like to be a part .

Hispanic Heritage Month

Septmber 15-October 15

Several Activities are being planned to observe the rich history and contributions of persons of Latino/Hispanic/Chicano descent. Please watch InSite and consult the University event calendar for times and locations.

Salsa Contest

Is your salsa the best? Join us for a salsa cook-off. Monday, Spetember 15 from 11:30 to 1:00 PM in front of the student center. Cash Prize awarded to the best salsa.

The First Amendment. Freedom of Expression: Where are We Heading?

Are there any limits on freedom of speech? Is it really free? Can I say what I want? Join us for a lively discussion about the First Amendment and what it means epscially during this hot political season. Everyone is welcome and encourage to participate. Food and beverages will be provided.

Alumni of Color Reunion

September 26-28, Family Weekend

Please join us for the Regis University Alumni of Color Reunion on family weekend, September 26-28, 2008. It will be a wonderful time to reconnect with each other as well as current students, faculty and staff, and with your University. As we enjoy networking, conversing and socializing, you also will have an opportunity to explore your pride in Regis and in each other and the purpose you share as Regis alumni.

Sixth Annual Faculty and Staff of Color Retreat

Sacred Heart Retreat Center, Sedalia, CO

This gathering is intended to provide an opportunity for personal growth as well as avenue for open discussion concerning issues that are relevant to the lives of people of color employed at Regis University. Specifically, the purpose of the Staff/Faculty of Color Retreat is to empower people of color by

  • providing communal space in which people of color can relax and be themselves
  • providing a time to openly discuss the University’s mission and other issues of relevance to people of color at Regis University
  • providing a time for both individual silent and group reflection
  • facilitating participants to grow both personally and as a community

Diversity Day April 9, 2009

Diversity Day 2008: Celebrating Who We Are and Who We Want to Become

The Regis University Diversity Day is designed to disseminate information and ideas about best practices in diversity education, awareness and celebration of diversity Goals

  1. Develop and enhance student, faculty and staff awareness of diversity issues in higher education
  2. Highlight diversity-related programs and activities in the Regis University community
  3. Provide opportunities for student leadership
  4. Promote a university-wide dialogue on the issues of diversity at Regis University

Modeled after other national diversity conferences the Regis University Diversity Day is comprehensive in scope highlighting issues and strategies relating to planning; recruiting and retaining a culturally diverse student body; issues of pedagogy, learning styles; curricular transformation, integration; and faculty development. Areas of special emphasis for concurrent sessions include but are not limited to:

  • Sessions by for and about students and their issues of concerns
  • Sessions designed to facilitate interaction and discussion around significant issues across and within significant conference constituencies
  • Issues of heterogeneity within racial/ethnic groups, linguistic issues and barriers, and issues of generational and immigration status
  • Policy, legislative, and societal-level issues impacting higher education
  • Issues of pedagogy, learning styles, curriculum transformation, and faculty development
  • University-community partnerships
  • Research, assessment, and evaluation issues, models, and findings
