History of Diversity Initiatives at Regis University

In November, 2000, Regis University President Michael J. Sheeran, S.J. made available a university consultant's report on diversity. This report was commissioned by the university's Task Force on Diversity, and was the joint work of three distinguished individuals (Maurianne Adams, Edgar Beckham, and Raymond Reyes) who visited for several days late in September, 2000.

The consultants' recommendations, combined with the original insights of the task force, set the agenda for the next stage of action planning. The report also provided an insightful, comprehensive, and hopeful view of the challenges and opportunities facing Regis University as we seek to enhance the multi-dimensional diversity of our learning community.

The President challenged the Regis community to "consider thoughtfully the analysis and recommendations contained in the report; to make them our own to the maximum appropriate extent; and then to rise powerfully to the challenge."

Since that time, the President’s Task Force on Diversity has risen to the challenge, and in 2002, an Associate to the Provost for Diversity position was devekloped to oversee university efforts to honor diversity in recruitment and support of students, faculty and staff.
