Who are Ignatius Loyola and John Francis Regis and what are the educational and behavioral goals of Regis University which they inspire?

Read about these historical figures and the themes of Jesuit higher education in Foundations. In this booklet you will also discover how the Spiritual Exercises of Ignatius Loyola and his emphasis on imagination influence our educational endeavors.

Ignatian spirituality

is the way Ignatius and his followers understood and lived out their relationship to God, themselves, the Church, the world, and other people.

Picture of Ignatius teaching

For Ignatius the world is not something evil to be fled and shunned; rather, everything in creation is a means to help people praise, reverence, and serve God. Ignatian spirituality is world affirming.

We are encouraged to find God in all things. The world is where the struggle between the "Two Standards" occurs. Found in this struggle is the Ignatian concern for the faith that does justice and the question, "How ought we to live?".
