Corporation for National Service
Has engaged more than a million Americans in service to their communities - helping to solve community problems. Partners with government, nonprofit, and business.

Council for International Exchange of Scholars (Fulbright Scholars)
Publicizes the annual competition, oversees the peer review process and makes CIES recommendations for lecturing and postdoctoral research awards abroad, and arranges also for the academic affiliation and programs of visiting scholars in the United States.

Department of Agriculture
Mission strives to develop cutting edge technologies that improve food and fiber production and enhance the safety of the national food supply.

Department of Commerce
The Department of Commerce promotes job creation, economic growth, sustainable development and improved living standards for all Americans by working in partnership with business, universities, communities and workers to: (1) Build for the future and promote U.S. competitiveness in the global marketplace by strengthening and safeguarding the nation's economic infrastructure, (2) Keep America competitive with cutting-edge science and technology and an unrivaled information base, (3) Provide effective management and stewardship of the nation's resources and assets to ensuresustainable economic opportunities.

National Telecommunications and Information Administration
NTIA's Office of Telecommunications and Information Applications (OTIA) assists state and local governments, educational and health care entities, libraries, public service agencies, and other groups in effectively using telecommunications and information technologies to better provide public services and advance other national goals.

Department of Education
The Administration's priorities include national efforts to improve reading and math, reduce class size, strengthen school construction, and promote major new initiatives and the Partnership for Family Involvement in Education.

Office of Bilingual Education and Minority Language Affairs
Helps school districts meet their responsibility to provide equal education opportunity to limited English proficient children.

Office of Postsecondary Education
Provides grants to institutions to increase access to higher education, improve the academic preparations of students, and strengthen institutional capacity. Also included here are international and graduate education programs.

TRIO Programs
Include eight outreach and support programs targeted to help disadvantaged students progress from middle school to postbaccalaureate programs.

Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education
FIPSE's main activity each year is conducting the Comprehensive Program, a grant program intended to support innovative educational reform projects that can serve as national models for the improvement of postsecondary education. If you have a good idea for improving teaching or student learning, or for improving access to postsecondary education , then FIPSE's Comprehensive Program might be an ideal funding source.

Department of Energy
The Energy Department is committed to helping educate our nation's next generation of scientists. The department's ESTEEM web site brings the scientific and educational resources of our national laboratories to a central location.

Department of Health and Human Services
Has approximately 300 grant programs, most of which are administered in a decentralized manner by several agencies.

Department Housing and Urban Development (HUD)
The mission of HUD is to insure a decent, safe, and sanitary home and suitable living environment for every American by fighting for fair housing, increasing affordable housing and home ownership, reducing homelessness, promoting jobs and economic opportunity, empowering people and communities and restoring the public trust.

Department of Justice
Grant proposals include: Americans with Disabilities Act Technical Assistance Program; Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) Grants; Programs & Activities; Community Outreach Program; (Community Relations Service; Drug Enforcement Administration Mobile Enforcement Teams; Office of Justice Programs Grants.

Justice Information Center
Funds researchers and practitioners engaging in specific criminal and juvenile justice projects. General financial aid for college study is not available.

National Institute of Justice
Supports research, evaluation and demonstration programs, development of technology, and both national and international information dissemination.

Environmental Protection Agency
To protect human health and safeguard the natural environment.

National Endowment for the Arts
Fosters the excellence, diversity and vitality of the arts in the United States, and helps to broaden public access to the arts. Since 1965, the NEA has awarded more in 111,000 grants.

National Endowment for the Humanities
A federal agency that supports learning in history, literature, philosophy, and other areas of the humanities. NEH provided funding for research, education, museum exhibitions, documentaries, preservation, and local activities at the state level.

National Institutes of Health
The NIH mission is to uncover new knowledge that will lead to better health for everyone. NIH works toward that mission by: conducting research in its own laboratories; supporting the research of non-Federal scientists in universities, medical schools, hospitals, and research institutions throughout the country and abroad; helping in the training of research investigators; and fostering communication of medial information.

AREA (Academic Research Enhancement Award)
Supports individual research projects in the biomedical and behavioral sciences conducted by faculty who are located in health professional schools and other academic components that have not been major recipients of NIH research grant funds.

National Science Foundation
An independent U.S. government agency responsible for promoting science and engineering through programs that invest over $3.3 billion per year in almost 20,000 research and education projects in science and engineering.

Division of Undergraduate Education
Serves as the focal point for NSF's agency-wide effort in undergraduate education. The programs and leadership efforts of DUE aim to strengthen and ensure the vitality of undergraduate education in science, mathematics, engineering, and technology (SMET) for all students.

RUI (Research in Undergraduate Institutions)
Through RUI, NSF provides support for research and research instrumentation for investigators in non-doctoral departments in predominantly undergraduate institutions.

United States Information Agency
Operates the U.S. government's programs of educational and cultural exchange. The best known of these is the Fulbright exchange program, which operates in over 125 countries. Additionally, each year over 2,400 foreign leaders and professionals come to the United States at USIA's invitation as International Visitors, and some 1,800-2,000 voluntary visitors come under private auspices for up to 30 days of professional appointments arranged by USIA. Many partners cooperate in USIA exchange activities: the academic community, U.S. private organizations, foreign governments and American volunteers.

Per Diem Rates
An allowance (also referred to as subsistence allowance) for lodging (excluding taxes), meals, and related incidental expenses. The CONUS (defined as the 48 contiguous States and the District of Columbia) per diem rates are established annually by GSA for travelers on official Government business to use for their lodging, meals and incidental expenses.
