American Council of Learned Societies
A private non-profit federation of sixty-one national scholarly organizations. The mission of the ACLS, as set forth in its constitution, is to "advance humanistic studies in all fields of learning in the Humanities and the related social sciences and to maintain and strengthen relations among the national societies devoted to such studies."

American Philosophical Society
Supports several major grant and fellowship programs to assist the promotion of useful knowledge. Awards are made for research only. Applicants must be residents of the United States or American citizens resident abroad. Grants are made to individuals only.

The Ford Foundation
Who is eligible: American citizens who are Alaska Natives, African-Americans, Mexican-Americans, American Indians, Native Pacific Islanders, or Puerto Ricans, and who aspire to, or are engaged in, a career in college teaching and research. on the academies' Web site.

John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation
Provides fellowships for advanced professionals in all fields (natural sciences, social sciences, humanities, creative arts) except the performing arts.

Robert Wood Johnson Foundation
Offers three-year fellowships, designed to allow recipients to remain in their current positions, and are intended to offer the experiences, insights, competencies and skills necessary "to achieve or advance in executive leadership positions in a healthcare systems undergoing unprecedented change.

Cyril O. Houle Scholars in Adult Education
Funded by theW.K. Kellogg Fdn. -- Program Support is provided to foster emerging scholars who will make a significant contribution to the field of adult education. Awards of $20,000 per year for two years are available. Eligible applicants must be citizens of Southern Africa, Mexico, or the U.S., be in the early years of their professional career in adult education and be currently employeed in a research-related position in adult education.

Leadership in Professional Development Grants
Up to fifty $1000 grants will be awarded to individual educators to support professional development experiences of their choice. Activities must address the recommendations described in NFIE's report "Teachers Take Charge of Their Learning: Transforming Professional Development for Student Success." James Madison Fellowship Foundation
Established by Congress for the purpose of improving teaching about the United States Constitution in secondary schools, offers two types of fellowships: Junior Fellowships are awarded to students who are about to complete, or have recently completed, their undergraduate course of study and plan to begin graduate work on a full-time basis. Junior Fellows have two years to complete their degrees. Senior Fellowships are awarded to experienced teachers who wish to undertake work for a graduate degree on a part-time basis through summer and evening classes. Senior Fellows have up to five years to complete their degree.

MacArthur Fellows Program
Provides unrestricted fellowships to exceptionally talented and promising individuals who have shown evidence of originality, dedication to creative pursuits, and capacity for self-direction. The MacArthur Fellows Program accepts nominations only from the more than 100 designated nominators across the country in a range of academic and professional fields.

NEH
National Endowment for he Humanities -- Provides support for six to twelve months of full-time work on a project that will make a significant contribution to thought and knowledge in the humanities. Includes, but is not limited to the study of history; philosophy; languages; linguistics; literature; archaeology; jurisprudence; the history, theory, and criticism of the arts; ethics; comparative religion; and those aspects of the social sciences that simply historical or philosophical approaches.

Summer internship program, post baccaluarte reserach opportunities, graduate education program, clinical and research training programs for medical and dental students.

Graduate Teaching Fellows in K-12 Education
National Science Foundation
This program supports fellowships and associated training that will enable graduate students and advanced undergraduates in the sciences, mathematics, engineering, and technology (SMET) to serve in K-12 schools as resources. Awards ranging from $200,000 to $500,000 per year for a period of two to three years will be awarded to U.S. academic institutions that grant master's or doctoral degrees in SMET disciplines.

Jennings Randolph Program for International Peace
Awards Senior Fellowships and Peace
Scholar Dissertation Fellowships to enable outstanding scholars, policymakers, journalists, and other professionals to conduct research on important issues concerning international conflict and peace.

Rhodes Schoarship
For all majors with high academic acheivement, proven commitment, service and physical stamina. A Rhodes Scholarship is tenable at the University of Oxford. It may be held for a maximum of three years.

Sabbitical Homes

Smithsonian Institution In-Residents Fellowships
Offers fellowships for research and study in various disciplines.

School of American Research
In-residence fellowships support writing projects, or Ph.D. dissertations about topics in the understanding of humankind. Topics may be humanistic or scientific, from the perspective of anthropology or from anthropologically informed perspectives in fields such as history, sociology, art, and philosophy. The award provides a stipend of $30,000 for a nine-month tenure.

Social Science Research Council
These programs provide predissertation and dissertation fellowships, postdoctoral fellowships, and advanced research grants in both the social sciences and humanities.

United States Institute of Peace
An independent, nonpartisan federal institution created by congress to promote research, education, and training on the peaceful resolution of international conflicts.

Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation
Awards approximately 20 residential fellowships annually in an international competition to individuals with outstanding project proposals in a broad range of the social sciences and humanities on national and/or international issues - topics that intersect with questions of public policy.
