Testing Options for Regis Distance Learners

Regis University accepts three types of National exams. They are CLEP, NLN and DSST. We also offer a selection of Regis University Challenge exams.

How to register for an exam

CLEP & DSST exams

CLEP and DSST exams can be taken at any local college test center that has them available. Follow their rules regarding registration. The Regis University Test Center number (below) will ensure that your exam results are sent directly to us. To find out what schools in your area offer these exams, please click on the link:

  • CLEP
  • College Level Testing Program (Regis center # 4656)
  • DSST
  • Dantes Subject Standardized Tests (Regis center # 9938)

NLN (National League of Nursing) exams:

Regis University Testing Center offers NLN examinations. Registering for them is a two-step process. First, contact a local college to see if they will proctor the exam for you. There is usually a fee of under $25.00 for them to do this. Once you have established where and when you can sit for the exam, complete an NLN exam registration form and send it to us along with your payment. Register at least three weeks before your desired date so we can process and mail the exam in time. Be sure to include the contact information for the test administrator, so we can address the exam directly for his or her attention. Take a photo ID with you when you sit for the exam. After you complete the exam the local college will mail the exam back to Regis University.

Challenge exams:

A student is allowed only one attempt to pass a Challenge exam. If a "No-Pass" grade is awarded, the exam cannot be repeated.

If the challenge exam you selected is a take-home exam, we will mail it to you as soon as we receive your registration form. You will have 2 - 3 weeks (depending on the exam) to complete it. We allow an extra five days for the mail to reach us.

If this is a Challenge Exam that needs to be proctored, there is a dual registration process. Once with Regis University Testing Center. Once with a local college who have the facilities to proctor your exam:

Initially you may research the name, test administrator title and contact information(including phone numbers and addresses) for TWO local colleges of your choice who may have the ability to proctor the exam for you. Once you have established where and when you can potentially sit for the exam, complete the registration form and send it to us along with the contact information for both test administrators. We will then contact the test centers for verification that they can provide the proper environment for your exam. We will then confirm the location with you so that you may make a reservation at that college to have the exam proctored. (Local colleges usually charge a fee of under $25.00 for this service.)

Register with Regis University Testing Center at least three weeks before your desired date so we can finalize arrangements for you in adequate time. Please bring a photo ID with you when you arrive for the exam. After you complete the exam the college will mail the exam directly back to Regis University. Exams are usually graded within four to six weeks of the date of receipt.

COM 210 Speech Communication Challenge Exam

To prepare for this exam, download the Com 210 Success Packet for Distance Students
You are also required to provide a clear copy of your Drivers License for identification purposes. Your exam will not be submitted for grading unless the paperwork you submit is complete.

This presentation is a 6 - 8 minute, persuasive style presentation that will take some coordination on your part to set up. When you do your presentation, you must have an audience of at least five people and you will need to video record your speech, creating a VHS, Mini D.V. or DVD recording. To register for the exam, fill out the online registration form with essay explaning your qualifications to challenge the course. You will also pay with a credit card and select an approximate date when you expect your Speech to arrive in our office. IF YOU DO NOT SEE AN AVAILABLE DATE IN YOUR WINDOW FOR THE COM210 DISTANCE, PLEASE CALL US and we will discuss options. Once completed, send in the recording along with a photocopy of your photo ID, the speech outline, copies of any handouts or AV aids you used during your presentation and a self-addressed stamped envelope. After you mail it to us, you will receive a score report and feedback about your presentation within four-six weeks.

It is not necessary to have a professional quality video recording made, but do have your volunteer camera operator steady the camera, and pan your audience several times during the speech. EDITED TAPES WILL NOT be eligible for credit. Remember that only V.H.S, Mini D. V. or DVD media will be accepted for grading.

NOTE: The video COM210 option is only available for students who do not live in Colorado, and cannot come to a campus to take the exam.

Remember that this exam is for a freshman-level course and must have a persuasive, not just informative, "purpose," related to the topic of your choice. The expectations and instructions provided for this exam are specifically detailed in the packet. Carefully follow these instructions in preparing your speech and outline.

Please call the Testing Center if you have questions about any of your testing options at 1-800-967-3237 Ext. 4375. Please consult with your advisor prior to registering for any exam for degree plan compatibility.
