Service-Learning is defined as a form of experiential education in which students engage in activities that address human and community needs together with structured opportunities intentionally designed to promote student learning and development (Jacoby, 1996). Reflection and consciousness-raising are essential components of the learning. It remains central to the mission of Jesuit education to prepare students with the skills and knowledge necessary to be successful in society, but also provide them with the tools necessary to engage in social transformation by providing a deeper understanding of the historical, social, cultural, political and economic contexts of important societal issues.
