Program Requirements

The program requirements listed are updated from time to time as information changes and may vary from what is in the University Bulletin. In the case of any discrepancy, the Bulletin will prevail. The University reserves the right to terminate or change these requirements as and when it deems appropriate.

PHILOSOPHY MAJOR (24 SH)


Upper Division Requirements (24 SH)



Twenty-four upper division semester hours of Philosophy courses beyond the Core Studies requirement, which must include:

-One course on the history of philosophy selected from the following:
  • PL 404--Classical Greek Philosophy
  • PL 406--Later Classical Philosophy
  • PL 411--Medieval Philosophy
-One course on the history of philosophy selected from the following:
  • PL 417--The Emergence of Modernity
  • PL 418--The Philosophy of the Enlightenment
  • PL 419--19th Century Philosophy
-One course in ethics selectef from the following:
  • PL 448E-W--Special Topics in Ethics
  • Any other 400-level ethics course with Advisor's approval
-One capstone course::
  • PL 499--Senior Capstone -Four 400-level Philosophy courses chosen in consultation with the academic advisor. :

      PHILOSOPHY MINOR (12 SH)


      Twelve upper division semester hours of Philosophy courses beyond the Core Studies requirement selected with the approval of the minor advisor.
