Documentation Requirements

If you are currently a Regis University student with a disability or are planning on becoming a student in the future and you are requesting accommodations, you will need to contact the Disability Services Office. We will review your documentation with you following specific requirements for Regis University.

Introduction

Individuals with disabilities who attend or plan to attend Regis University may need reasonable accommodations, modifications, or auxiliary aids/assistive technology, in order to have equal access to the programs and services offered. Students who need accommodations are responsible for requesting these services from and for meeting with the Disability Services Office at Regis University for the following reasons:

  • To provide documentation that supports the request for services; and
  • To discuss the request, the nature of their disabilities, and experiences.

Purpose

These documentation requirements have been provided to assist students in obtaining appropriate documentation from qualified professionals. Appropriate documentation of a disability is only one part of determining necessary accommodations. The provision of appropriate documentation to Regis University helps the student in educationg appropriate staff and faculty about the impact of his/her disability, his/her needs, and potential accommodations. Regis University may request documentation for the following reasons:

  • To verify the existence of a disability;
  • To assist in the collaborative determination of eligibility for auxiliary aids and services, and individual needs to minimize the impact of the disability
  • To personalize the student's right to equal access to his/her institution.

  • Disability documentation should reflect current levels of skills, abilities and need for accommodations;
  • Documentation, for most students, should be no older than three years in order to reflect current functioning;
  • Students age 21 and older, who have had regular evaluations without significant changes in several years, may be exempt from the three year period;
  • Disabilities that are sporadic or degenerative may require more frequent evaluation as needed accommodations change.
