Digital Badging Frequently Asked Questions WHY DIGITAL BADGES? Digital badges are a way to complement your formal training by highlighting competencies not currently credentialed and making those credentials more visible to others. Digital badges also assist in building your career portfolio. WHAT ARE DIGITAL BADGES? Digital badges are used as a credentialing platform to recognize achievements and accomplishments that can be shared through business and social media platforms. WHO WAS INVOLVED IN THE CREATION OF THESE DIGITAL BADGES? The Regis University Digital Badge Committee worked with Father Bart Geiger, S.J., to align Regis University’s Jesuit Values to each badge. The Digital Badge Committee also worked together to create representative images to illustrate what each badge signifies. The Digital Badge Committee was created to execute the voting process on nominations and continually refine the nomination process to make it more user-friendly. WHAT QUALIFIES SOMEONE TO RECEIVE A DIGITAL BADGE? Our focus for digital badging is specific to the Jesuit values. Digital badges are awarded based on the category an individual was nominated for. Please refer to the category descriptions and criteria on the table displayed in the Digital Badge Process document. Although digital badges were previously being awarded exclusively to CCLS students, they are now open to all University students, staff, affiliate faculty and faculty. CAN I EARN MULTIPLE BADGES? Digital badges are visible to anyone – current employers, peers and the wider community. Recipients can post their digital badges on social media platforms such as LinkedIn, Facebook, or Twitter. Badges can also be included on resumes and also in your signature line WHAT CAN I DO WITH THE BADGE AFTER I EARN IT? Digital badges are visible to anyone– current employers, peers, and the community. Post your digital badge on social media such as, LinkedIn, Facebook and/or Twitter and include digital badges on your resume. WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A DIGITAL BADGE AND A CERTIFICATE? Digital badges provide a more comprehensive picture of your skillset and are used for credentialing using specific criteria for your achievements and accomplishments. The benefit of earning a badge in relationship to the Jesuit values is that it illustrates character traits that are often neglected on resumes, whereas certificates directly relate to course work taken at a university. HOW ARE BADGES VERIFIED? The Regis University Digital Badge Committee reviews and votes on badge nominations on a monthly basis. When nominations are approved, the Affiliate Faculty Lead uses the online app Credly to distribute badges electronically to awarded recipients. HOW DO I ACCESS MY DIGITAL BADGE ONCE I AM AWARDED? Recipients receive their digital badges electronically and must create a free account with Credly to confirm and accept their badges. DO MY BADGES EVER EXPIRE?
