    2018 Stories from Wartime
    6:00 PM-8:00 PM

    The Complexities of Commemoration:

How do Americans remember war? Controversies about remembrance reveal the ways in which commemoration is about the past and the present. The evening’s focus is on how war is remembered, written about, and presented in the aftermath of conflict.

Featuring Adam Hochschild, author of "To End All Wars" and "King Leopold's Ghost," and Alex Kershaw, author of "The Liberator" and "The Longest Winter."

These events are free and open to the public. If you wish to attend, please register in advance.

Every spring semester for the past 23 years, Regis University’s Center for the Study of War Experience has led a public history series, "Stories from Wartime," featuring veterans and civilians sharing their wartime experiences. The moderated panels have represented WWII, Korea, Vietnam, the Gulf War and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

This year, the Center partners with the Arvada Center to bring its panels to a larger public audience.  For the complete schedule click here.

    STEPS Symposium
    8:00 AM-1:00 PM

Join us for the inaugural half-day conference STEPS Symposium. This symposium is free and open to the public but space is limited and you must register here.

Sponsored by the College of Business Regis University, Rotary District 5450, Acton Institute, & the Global Poverty Class in Regis College, this symposium will showcase student learning and explore proven solutions to end poverty. The goal is to bridge academic learning and community action by bringing together students, scholars, and NGOs working on innovative actions to end global poverty. Students have been researching poverty in different parts of the world. This is an opportunity for them to engage with others working on this important issue.

Student, Aidan Diffee, is excited to share his research with symposium attendees because as he states, “...what we are doing to address global poverty is set apart from other research in that students work with an “in country” mentor and work through real solutions that ask what really needs to be done to impact change.”

Says Valeria Zepeda Rodiguez, another student presenting at the symposium, “everyone is focused on separate countries and researching the Global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs); which are a significant investment in global change. My team is working on Affordable energy in Cambodia.”

The symposium will feature a keynote speech by M.D. Kinoti, PhD, Associate Professor, Rotarian, and Economic Development expert. It will also include student research and presentations as well as a panel of Nongovernmental Organization (NGO) experts.
