Meet the Jesuits

Regis University is blessed with two Jesuit residences. Jesuit House is located on Regis University's Northwest Denver campus and the Xavier Jesuit Center is just north of campus.

Faber Jesuit House

The Jesuit House is located at the top of the hill directly west of St. John Francis Regis Chapel. Nearly all the Jesuits serving at Regis University and all those assigned to Arrupe Jesuit High School live at Jesuit House.

Xavier Jesuit Center

Xavier Jesuit Center

Xavier Jesuit Center has one Jesuit serving at Regis University and a number of members who offer spiritual ministry to Regis, Arrupe Jesuit High School and several parishes in the Denver metro area.

Faber Jesuit House at Regis University is home to twelve members of the Society of Jesus:

Fr. Fernando Álvarez Lara: Fr. Fernando is a professor of Theology and Religious Studies focusing on Latinx Theology and Ignatian Spirituality. Prior to becoming a Jesuit, he worked as a chemical engineer. He entered the Jesuits in 1998, was ordained in 2009 and is a native of El Paso, Texas and Chihuahua, Mexico.

Fr. Kevin Burke: Fr. Burke is Vice President for Mission. Formerly, he was Dean and a faculty member at the Jesuit School of Theology of Santa Clara Berkeley. He has also worked at Regis University and Boston College. He entered the Jesuits in 1976, was ordained in 1986 and is a native of Laramie and Rawlins, Wyoming.

Mr. Marco Machado: Mr. Machado is a regent teaching mathematics at Arrupe Jesuit High School where he helps with the robotics team and community service. He is a native of Cd. Juarez, Mexico/El Paso, TX, and entered the Jesuits in 2016.

Fr. Marcus Fryer: Fr. Fryer is the Dean of Students at Arrupe Jesuit High School in north Denver. He entered the Jesuits in 2006, was ordained in 2017 and is a native of Houston, Texas. Fr. Fryer graduated from Strake Jesuit, Texas A&M, Boston College, and Regis University. On the weekends Fr. Fryer enjoys celebrating Mass at Our Lady of Guadalupe and running in beautiful Colorado.

Fr. John Nugent: Fr. Nugent is Principal of Arrupe Jesuit High School in north Denver. He is a native of Houston, Texas, began discerning a priestly vocation while he was a student at Strake Jesuit College Preparatory, and entered the Jesuits in 2004. He has studied at Saint Louis University and Boston College, was ordained in 2015, and joined the Arrupe Jesuit community in 2016.

Fr. Eustace Sequeira: Fr. Sequeira teaches "Death and Dying",“Jesuit Spirituality” and “Leading Lives that Matter” for the School of Professional Advancement, which serves post-traditional adult learners. He also serves as a frequent sacramental minister at a number of Denver area parishes and accompanying the mourners at Mt. Olivet, the Archdiocesan cemetery. Prior to his present time with the Regis community, he served as pastor for St. Ignatius Loyola parish, Denver, and in Rome as a broadcaster at Vatican Radio and treasurer at the Biblicum. He spent many years in Zambia, Africa, working in Communications.

Fr. Jason Brauninger: Serves on the faculty at Regis University in the Nursing Department.

Fr. Joe T. Nguyen: Serves in retreat ministry throughout the United States and abroad.

Fr. Hung Pham: Fr. Hung Pham (class ‘93) is an alumnus and former professor of Regis University; a native of Vietnam, he immigrated to Denver in 1985. He currently serves as provincial assistant for formation accompanying Jesuit scholastics, brothers, and priests in formation from First Vows to Final Vows. He also serves as director of the Office of Ignatian Spirituality of the Province. He teaches, directs, and leads seminars in various topics in Ignatian Spirituality in Africa, Asia, Europe, and North America.

Fr. Tom Curran: Tom Curran comes to the Regis U Jesuit Community from Kansas City where he was on the staff of Rockhurst University for 16 years. He serves as the Coordinator for the Jesuit Prison Education Network (JPEN). He is originally from Philadelphia, PA. Hence, many accuse him of having a funny accent. He returns to his hometown, each year, for what he calls “speech therapy.” There, he recovers and strengthens his Rocky Balboa-like sounds!

Fr. Michael Wegenka: Fr. Wegenka is from Houston, Texas and has worked at Regis Jesuit High School as well as his alma mater, Strake Jesuit in Houston. He was ordained in 2018 and is currently working as a vocation promoter for the UCS Province and helps with sacramental ministry at local parishes as well as the various Jesuit works here in Denver.

Fr. Kevin Dyer: Fr. Dyer has moved to Denver this year to begin the role of senior national chaplain with the Fellowship of Catholic University Students. Previously, he worked seven years at Regis Jesuit High School and seven at Jesuit High School of New Orleans. He entered the Jesuits in 1999.
