How one communicates, socializes, spends leisure time, and conducts business has moved to the Internet. This has resulted in an explosion of data that is changing the world. How one uses this data is now a societal concern. Emboldened by our Jesuit heritage, Regis University’s graduate certificate in Data Science empowers students develop techniques for the discovery of information in data in a socially responsible manner.
Data Science (Graduate)
The graduate academic certificate in Data Science introduces students to:
- Manipulating various sources of data
- Statistical data analysis techniques including machine learning
- Techniques for working with Big Data
Students will learn how to create visualization products that communicate the results of their analysis. The courses also introduce students to the Hadoop ecosystem of software products and to techniques for the discovery and communication of meaningful patterns in data.
The student experience in this program focuses on practical hands-on assignments using today’s software tools for data acquisition, data manipulation, data analysis, prediction, and visualization.

PROGRESS TOWARD A MASTER’S DEGREE
All four classes of the graduate academic certificate in Data
Science can be applied toward the Master of Science in Data
Science degree program.
How to Apply
A candidate for one of the academic certificate programs must possess the prerequisite skills for entry into one of the College of Computer & Information Sciences (CC&IS) programs and the specific prerequisite skills/knowledge identified in each certificate program. Three or more years of relevant work experience OR a bachelor’s degree within the past two years in a relevant computer information sciences field is required. Applicants must possess a baccalaureate degree either from a U.S. regionally accredited institution or a recognized institution in another nation equivalent to a U.S. regionally accredited bachelor’s degree.
Regis University’s graduate academic certificates are designed for students who seek new career opportunities, are looking to enhance their work-related knowledge and skills and to advance themselves educationally. The graduate academic certificate represents a selection of courses from the Master of Science programs. These courses could eventually be included in a CC&IS graduate student's program of study or stand alone as courses beyond the degree requirements.

Submit official degree-bearing transcripts either from a U.S.regionally accredited institution or recognized institution in another nation. Official transcripts must be sent directly from your previously attended schools to the Office of Admissions. You can download a transcript request form here.

Please remember: Applications that are incomplete and/or missing information will NOT be processed.
All completed applications for admissions will be reviewed. A minimum undergraduate cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale is recommended. Applicants with a GPA below 3.0 and/or those applicant who do not meet the work experience requirement will be considered on an individual basis and will be required to take one 500-level foundational course (3 credits) prior to beginning their 600-level graduate program coursework. A grade of “B” or better must be achieved in the 500-level foundational course to continue progressing through the 600-level graduate program coursework.
It is recommended that applications are submitted one month in advance of desired start date to ensure adequate processing time and optimize class availability options. Your application file, including all required documents, must be completed to be considered for admission. Keep in mind that classes can reach capacity, so you are encouraged to apply now for admission consideration.
