Post 9/11 Veterans ATTENTION STUDENTS: Regis has a certifying policy for all Post 9/11 GI Bill® recipients. Regis will certify the credit hours for all students prior to the semester starting; this allows for your BAH (if eligible) and Book Stipends to disperse directly to you. Regis currently does not certify tuition until after each term's add/drop date, since the payments come directly to the school. We are hoping this makes VA payments much cleaner and provides better service to our students. VA students WILL NOT be flagged for late payments for the portion of their tuition that VA is responsible for. If the VA does not cover your tuition in full you will be responsible for paying your portion by the due date for each term. We strongly encourage students to avoid dropping registration. Processesand ProceduresTuitionCoverageHousingAllowanceTransferringPost 9/11 GI Bill® The VA recipient must be accepted as a degree seeking student at Regis University The student applies online for the post 9/11 GI Bill® at the GI Bill® website, www.benefits.va.gov; please print or save a copy of your application, you will need to send Regis a copy of the application. After you apply you will receive a certificate of eligibility from the VA. This can take up to eight weeks for the VA to send out. Fill out Regis’ Authorization Form for VA Certification. Send a copy of the Authorization form along with your certificate of eligibility, and a copy of your degree plan (sometimes called Academic or Program Evaluation on WebAdvisor) to the Regis VA student counselor. If you do not have your certificate of eligibility yet, Regis will accept a copy of the online application form and certify you for one term. Regis will, however, need a copy of the certificate of eligibility as soon as it is received from the VA. The student registers for classes at Regis University. The Regis VA student counselor certifies the student’s registration with the VA by electronically submitting VA form 22-1999. Credit hours are certified; however, tuition and fees are not certified until after the add/drop period of the term. The student receives an email of their certification to their Regis.edu email account. The VA processes the certification and releases book stipend and BAH, if applicable (allow 2 - 8 weeks). The Regis VA student counselor certifies the student’s tuition after the add/drop period of the term. The VA processes the tuition payment and sends the funds directly to Regis to be applied to the student’s account (allow 2 - 8 weeks). VA tuition maximum is $21,970.46 per academic year (August 1-July 31) for students at 100 percent eligibility as indicated on their certificate of eligibility. The tuition maximum decreases in correlation with the percentage that students are eligible for according to their certificate of eligibility. Ex. A student at 80% eligibility will have a tuition cap of $16,188.01 or 80 percent of $21,084.89. The VA will pay the percentage of tuition that the student is eligible for, up to the student’s tuition cap. Ex. If a student is at 60 percent eligibility and is signed up for a class totaling $1,380.00, the VA will pay $828.00 or 60 percent of the class total and will continue to pay 60 percent of any other class totals, up to a tuition cap of $11,518.99 or 60 percent of $19,198.31 per academic year. If a student is at 100% eligibility, the VA will pay 100% of the student’s tuition costs up to $21,084.89 per academic year. Students who are awarded less than 100 percent of the Post 9/11 benefit will be responsible for covering outstanding tuition charges which will be due on or before the tuition due date. Ex. The student at 60 percent eligibility who is signed up for a class totaling $1,380.00 will need to pay 40 percent of their class total ($552.00) prior to the tuition due date, even though the VA portion of their tuition has not come in yet. Students who cannot pay on or before the tuition due date, or who do not have guaranteed financial aid to cover the remaining costs will need to complete a Tuition Deferment Form on WebAdvisor. The Tuition Deferment Form must be received in the Student Account Office on or before the tuition due date to avoid any late fees and holds on the student’s account. Students are encouraged to apply for Federal Financial Aid at www.fafsa.ed.gov for any costs not covered by the GI Bill®. Credit hours will be certified prior to the term start date so students can receive Book Stipends and BAH ahead of time; however, their tuition and fees will not be certified until after the add/drop period of the term the student is registered for. This means that tuition and fees will not be paid to the University until after the class has begun. All certifications are reported to the VA based on term dates and NOT semester dates. Students taking variable classes keep in mind that the EXACT dates of the class reported to the VA are the dates listed in WebAdvisor, regardless of work done by the student before or after the designated class dates. In order for students to receive 100% of their BAH benefit, they must be considered full time throughout the entire 16 week semester, AND they must be attending at least ONE classroom-based course throughout the entire 16 week semester. If a student attends only one classroom-based five-week course, he or she will be considered ¾ time for those 5 weeks and will receive 80% of their BAH for the 5 weeks. Students who are attending full time, but only enrolled in online or distance learning classes will receive a BAH benefit of 50% of the national average. To be considered Full Time Undergraduate Students: Attending eight Week terms, the student must be in two courses at the same time during 8W1 (at least one of those must be classroom-based) as well as two courses during 8W2 (at least one must be classroom-based) to receive full housing allowance, if eligible, for the entire 16 week semester. Attending five Week terms, the student must be in two courses at the same time during 5W1, 5W2, and 5W3 and at least one must be classroom based for all three terms in order to receive full housing for 15 weeks. If a student only attends one classroom- based course for all three terms, he or she will be considered ¾ time and receive 80% of the housing allowance for 15 weeks. Attending both eight Week and five Week terms, the student must be in at least one course per term (8W1, 8W2 overlapping with 5W1, 5W2, 5W3) and continuously attend at least one classroom-based course through the entire semester. This is considered full time during 15 weeks of the semester (the 8W2 course is one week longer than the 5W3 course which will put you at half-time during the last week of the 16 week semester and not eligible for housing). Graduate Students: Attending one classroom-based course in an 8-week term is considered full time for those eight weeks. The Post-9/11 GI Bill® allows veterans to transfer all or some unused educational benefits to their spouse or dependent children.
