Regis University Partners with Father Woody's Haven of Hope and Homeless Gear to Host Fair June 18th
June 14, 2016
Denver, June 14, 2016 – Regis University in association with Father Woody’s Haven of Hope and Fort Collins-based Homeless Gear, will host a Summer Gear Distribution and Wellness Fair for the homeless community of Denver from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, June 18. The fair will take place at Father Woody’s, located at 1101 W. 7th Ave.
The fair provides the homeless community with health promotion information, workshops, classes and supplies, as well as free outdoor gear, tents, outerwear, hygiene products and health related supplies.
The health organization, Persons of Color will also be on hand to do wellness checks, including HIV testing and counseling.
Cheryl Schwartz, Regis’ director of Service Learning, said the goal of the Fair is to equip the homeless with knowledge, education and supplies to progress toward self-sufficiency.
Organizers say they are hoping to build on the success of a similar fair held in March. That fair, organized by Regis University’s Office of Service Learning and Homeless Gear, served 187 people. Regis students also offered educational sessions on managing hygiene, wound care, temperature control and nutrition among others to make sure the homeless are prepared.
