Earth Week Concludes April 22 with a Party for the Planet
April 18, 2017
Regis University will host an unprecedented week of events and education on its Northwest Denver Campus to celebrate our greatest asset — Earth.
Each day from April 17-22 will feature special events, speakers and films. The celebration will culminate on Earth Day, April 22, with a party for the planet.
From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on April 22, there will be family friendly activities, arboretum and sustainability tours, vendors, artists and food trucks. A beer garden will open at 11 a.m.
Regis University President Rev. John P. Fitzgibbons, S.J., will deliver a formal welcome on the steps of Dayton Memorial Library at noon on Earth Day. He’ll be followed by keynote speaker Xiuhtezcatl Martinez, a 16-year-old climate change activist, hip-hop artist and powerful voice on the global youth-led environmental movement.
“Earth Week is at the root of what we do at Regis University,” said Beth Caniglia, the director of the Sustainable Economic and Enterprise Development Center (SEED) in Regis’ College of Business and Economics. “We designed the week to address and create dialogue around some of Earth’s most pressing issues. We want to share that conversation with our students, staff, faculty and the surrounding community.”
Each day, Regis will host a film during its Environmental Film Festival. The movies include “Plant Pure Nation,” “Beyond Standing Rock,” “Racing Extinction” and “Poverty Inc.” Other activities during the week include a neighborhood cleanup, roundtable discussions on the Dakota Access Pipeline, classes on herbal lotion-making and succulent planting, meditation, yoga and more.
