Traci L. Jones attended Pomona College in Claremont, California, receiving a bachelor of arts in psychology. Working and living in California for about a year after graduating, Jones returned to Colorado to attend the University of Denver where she earned a master’s of science in advertising. After working in marketing for two years in the Chicago area, Jones returned home to be closer to her family, and worked at a few local advertising agencies. She met her husband, Tony Jones shortly after returning to Colorado and they married in 1995. They have four children, and together own and operate Cornell Prescription Pharmacy.
While raising her four kids and helping with the pharmacy Jones realized that something was missing. Having always been an avid reader, she was reminded of her love for writing when by chance she came across an ad for the creative writing certificate at the University of Denver. She applied and began taking courses. In one of those courses she was given an assignment which lead to her first book, Standing Against the Wind. Published by Farrar, Straus and Giroux in 2006, the book would win the Coretta Scott King/John Steptoe New Talent Award. Two more books followed in 2010 and 2011, Finding My Place and Silhouetted by the Blue.
While she reads every genre of book, Jones is most interested in young adult and middle grade fiction. She would also be open to any multicultural book and even historical romance writing as well.
