Mentor Statement
I work with writers in any creative prose genre (novel, memoir, short stories, essays, and flash), and my goals are to help you generate new writing, learn craft, and revise your work to completion. I always try to respect your vision first and foremost, and/or help you discover your vision. I will work with you on structural elements in your writing (plot arc, conflict, character motivation, perspective, pacing, change, and theme), as well as the other intricacies of craft such as overall characterization, scene, setting, dialogue, imagery, and style. We will develop strategies and tools to cultivate an individual, sustainable, and healthy writing process. I believe the mentor-writer relationship relies on trust and respect, and you can count on me to cheer you on, teach you openly, and be honest with you. Most of all, I will try to help you nurture an enduring passion for your projects and your writing.
