Karen LeDuc

I have been influenced by Parker Palmer's text on the courage to teach. He states "teachers choose their vocation for reasons of the heart, because they care deeply about their students and about their subject" (p.5). He describes an inner journey toward "reconnecting with our teaching and students to recover the passion for one of the most difficult and important of human endeavors" (p.2). Teaching is a valued focus of my professional career which I hope to continue to refine incorporating the Jesuit values that inspire education. For example, Cura Personalis is having concern and care for the personal development of the whole person, and Magis, the value of striving for excellence. I believe we teach to help others experience the joyous wonder of learning. I continue to seek avenues that will foster these values in my teaching endeavors which continues to be my career goal as an educator. I continue to change teaching methodologies to foster my teaching effectiveness because I care deeply about students and the nursing profession. I am hopeful my students and mentees will catch my passion for nursing and recognize how deeply I care about their journey.
