Dr. Emery received their BA in Neuroscience and Behavior at Vassar College. They then completed their Ph.D. in Neuroscience with Dr. Kent Berridge at the University of Michigan where they explored how stress-associated corticotropin releasing factor neurons in the amygdala can cause intense "wanting" or motivation, especially in the context of addiction.
At Regis, Dr. Emery utilizes behavioral, pharmacological, chemogenetic, drug self-administration and immunohistochemical approaches to understand how neural stress systems and stress-resilience contribute to motivation and drug craving. They also teach Introduction to Brain and Behavior, Neuroscience Research Methods and the upper-level Stress, Brain and Behavior elective.
