Michael Baxter

Professor Baxter teaches courses that focus on the Catholic faith and tradition, including an introductory course on Catholicism (RT 308), a course on Peace and Justice in Catholic Social Thought (RCC 420 J) and a course on Catholic social teaching on the environment, “Ecology, Economy, and Christ” (RCC 410 E). He also teaches a religious studies introductory course (RT 201), focusing on traditional ways of life in Buddhism, Lakota, Judaism, Islam and Christianity in the context and challenges of modernity. He also is working on The Disputation Project, an effort to foster debate in Regis College and the University at large on important topics at Regis, in the broader academy, and in society at large.

Dr. Baxter received a Ph.D. in Religion from Duke University in 1996. His research and writing focus on radicalism in Catholic social ethics as embodied in the Catholic Worker and on peacemaking, conscience and war in the Catholic tradition in the United States. He is a member of the Society of Christian Ethics, the Academy of Catholic Theology and the College Theology Society. He is completing a book titled “Blowing the Dynamite of the Church”: Radicalism Against Americanism in Catholic Social Ethics, (Cascade Press).
