Dr. Rebecca Rivera-Serrano is a lecturer for the Undergraduate and Graduate Criminology programs at Regis University. She spent 30 years working in the Criminal Justice system beginning with the Department of Justice and then working as a high-risk probation officer for the State of Colorado. She ended her criminal justice career at the Department of Safety in Denver Pretrial. She has taught at the university level for the past 17 years.
She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Criminology from the University of Denver. She completed her Master’s degree at the University of Colorado Denver in Gender-based Violence. She obtained her Doctorates in Education from Creighton University. Her research focused on identifying the practices that reduce criminality through community-based correctional education and is published in the International Journal of Educational Department in a special edition.
Dr. Rivera Serrano is not a Colorado native but has made Colorado her home for the past 30 years. She is presently a Board member for the Second Chances Center and continues to work towards prison and criminal justice reform and the advancement of victim-centered programs and practices.
