Sarah Puett

Sarah Puett is an Assistant Professor of Rhetoric-Composition in the First Year Experience of Regis College. She teaches core courses in rhetoric, writing, and communication as well as topics courses on U.S. race politics, social movements, and argumentation. Her approach is informed by nascent pedagogies of unlearning, with foundational influence from black feminist thought, queer theory, and critical compositionists. Her current work involves program support, faculty learning communities, and teacher development across the disciplines and outside the academy.

She holds a Ph.D. in Rhetoric, Scientific, and Technical Communication from the University of Minnesota. Working at the intersection of Literacy Studies and Rhetorical Studies, her research attends to the social construction and discursive maintenance of communities of practice. Her dissertation, a community literacy project, chronicles grassroots organizing and local antiracist work in the Twin Cities, demonstrating how the practices at local activist sites shape broader collective imaginaries. She examines the material production and rhetorical intervention of movement building, as well as the role-negotiation involved in participatory field methods.
