Visa and Immigration Information

Once you receive your I-20/DS-2019 from Regis University, you will need to pay the SEVIS fee online and apply for a visa appointment at the US embassy. Please visit the US embassy website of the location that you will be applying for your F-1/J-1 visa.

Most students studying in the U.S. have an F-1 visa. While there are many differences between an F-1 and J-1 visa, F-1 visas are appropriate if your education will be funded by personal sources, outside sources or a combination of both.

J-1 visas require a substantial portion of funding for your education to come from an outside source, such as the university or a government. Many students in specific educational exchange programs such as Fulbright or EAP study under a J-1 visa.

After approval of your visa, start preparing for your arrival in the U.S. You cannot enter the U.S. more than 30 days before the program start date on your I-20. If you were not approved for your visa or are not able to attend Regis and must defer your attendance, please contact International Student Support Services.

Note: you are required to bring your immigration documents to your on-campus orientation session. These documents include your passport, F-1/J-1 visa, I-20/DS-2019, I-901 SEVIS receipt, and I-94. The DSO/RO reviews and keeps these documents in your student file during the duration of your studies at Regis University.

Students completing their course work entirely online will not be issued an I-20. Regis University does not assist online, certificate or non-degree seeking students with obtaining a visa.
