Kathy Fish is the author of a number of short stories and flash fiction that have been published or are forthcoming in The Lineup: 20 Provocative Women Writers (Black Lawrence Press, 2015), Slice, Guernica, Indiana Review, Mississippi Review, Denver Quarterly, New South, Quick Fiction, and other journals and anthologies. Fish guest-edited Dzanc Books’ Best of the Web 2010.
She is the author of three collections of short fiction: a chapbook of flash fiction in A Peculiar Feeling of Restlessness: Four Chapbooks of Short Short Fiction by Four Women (Rose Metal Press, 2008), Wild Life (Matter Press, 2011), and Together We Can Bury It (The Lit Pub, 2012). Kathy has served as fiction editor for the longstanding flash-fiction journal, Smokelong Quarterly, and has judged a number of flash-fiction contests. Additionally, she has presented on the topic of flash fiction at AWP and taught flash fiction at American University’s Discover the World of Communication summer program. She has a new co-authored collection, called Rift, forthcoming from Unknown Press, in late 2015.
Fish’s key interests as a writer are flash fiction, short stories, and prose poetry. She loves the challenge of working within these forms and admires writers who innovate and take risks, such as Lydia Davis, Diane Williams, and Etgar Keret. Most thrilling to her is writing that displays a strong, authentic voice and unique world-view.
