Every July, a special day comes around that we as Americans use to celebrate our shared dream of a free society. We dress ourselves in our finest cotton-poly blends, relax in the summer shade and start drooling all over our favorite plaid shirt.
I’m speaking, of course, of July 22. Otherwise known as National Hammock Day. Though you’re probably quite familiar with the benefits of the outdoors on the human psyche, the hammock, in all its macraméd glory, serves as a brief vacation for the soul. Just as Superman has his Fortress of Solitude and Batman his Bat Cave, every high-pressured hero needs a respite from the routine every now and again.
But here’s the key to successfully celebrating National Hammock Day, (and this is important), don’t forget to wake up. There can be no benefit to taking a break if you don’t get back into the game afterwards. The same goes for your career. If you’re resting on your laurels and reveling in the monotony or the mundane, the best way to build your superhero powers is to rise to the challenge of an advanced degree.
When July 22 comes around, do yourself a favor: Take an afternoon to slow your mind and listen to the world. Mystics might call it meditation. Sure, meditation doesn’t involve a ham and swiss on toasted rye, ruffled potato chips and last week’s National Enquirer. But who’s watching? When you’re feeling recharged and ready, talk to an admissions counselor about suiting up to help us make the world a better place for hammock-lovers everywhere. But hurry, our fall enrollment deadlines are about to get tighter than a pair of jean shorts from 1985. Feeling recharged and inspired? Turn your inspiration into a $500 #RegisInspired scholarship.
