Julie Tacker

For Julie Tacker, her love of higher education was an inside job, one that began when she was a student at Regis University. With more than 11 years of human resources experience and a level of discernment for the Jesuit values, Tacker has big plans for her new role as the director of human resources. 

Regis Today recently sat down with Tacker to talk about what drew her to working at Regis, what she plans to do as well as what excites her most about her new role. 

Tell us a little bit about your previous position.
In my last role, I was the assistant director of human resources and director of payroll at the University of Northern Colorado.  I worked there for 11 years and developed a love for higher education. 

What initially attracted you to Regis?
I received my bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Regis University in 2007.  I’ve always been a non-traditional student and the programs at Regis are tailor-made for adult learners.  When I decided to get my master’s degree, I took classes at a couple of other universities but it just wasn’t the same as my experience at Regis.  I decided to enroll in the Masters of Organizational Leadership/Human Resource Management program at Regis in July of 2017 and will complete the program on December 14 of this year. I’ve always loved the key Jesuit values such as cura personalis – having concern and care for the whole person. It aligns well with my role in human resources, so when the position of director of human resources opened up here at Regis, I had to apply.  

What will you be doing in your new role?
As the human resources director, I will be the go-to person for employee relations, performance management, employment, training and development, and support of the University’s Title IX and nondiscrimination programs. 

What aspect excites you the most?
I love getting to know people and developing good working relationships with all employees. The most rewarding part of my job is facilitating the resolution of differences and giving employees the tools they need to be successful at their jobs.

What is something many people may not know about you?
 My husband and I are empty nesters who have one daughter in Winter Park and another daughter and son in California.  We love to travel to California to see family and to Florida to be kids ourselves at Walt Disney World.
