Lacrosse students at a commencement ceremony

For seven Regis University seniors, Sunday’s commencement ceremonies meant something different.

It meant another Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) tournament championship. The Regis women’s lacrosse team beat Lindenwood University, 16-15, in double overtime. It was the team’s third RMAC tournament championship and vaulted them to No. 2 in the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association Poll, the team’s highest ranking in program history.

For those seven seniors, it also meant they missed commencement. No worries. With Provost Janet Houser and the Rev. President John P. Fitzgibbons, S.J., in attendance, the seniors celebrated graduation on Monday in the Claver Recital Hall.

Women’s lacrosse seniors Hope Correia, Wendy Donier, Lauren Hurd, Koneta Karns, Janelle McFadden, Sarah Myres and Grace Rosenthal accepted their diplomas from Fitzgibbons.

The team is back on the field on Friday to open the NCAA Division II tournament. Regis opens at 11 a.m. against the University of Indianapolis on the Regis lacrosse field. Games are open to the public. General admission is $10; it’s $5 for Regis staff.
