Dr. Claywell is a servant leader and considers meeting the needs of others foundational to each of her roles. She believes that nursing education must contribute to the development of a more just and compassionate world through caring nursing practices that place the highest priority on the needs of others. She believes that caring for the whole person and providing appropriate opportunities for learning and growth enables people to change the world. Dr. Claywell believes educators must create change, innovating and leading to make a difference for others. She believes in reflective practice and in studying what we do to generate new knowledge to guide advancements in nursing and education. For years Dr. Claywell has studied and presented widely on best-practices in online and hybrid course delivery models specifically related to improved student outcomes based on faculty-driven processes. Dr. Claywell is also an innovator in fully online, interactive simulation in nursing, having been a part of a team who created a prototype for this type of learning tool in both English and Chinese. Dr. Claywell's textbook, LPN to RN Transitions, now in its 4th edition, is used throughout the United States as a foundational textbook in LPN to RN programs.
