Jeffrey Lalama teaches cardiology in the curriculum. He incorporates Jesuit values in the classroom. He does this by developing unique applications. Students think critically and consider concepts such as magis and cura personalis as they determine their answer. Jeff practices pharmacy at Swedish Medical Center. Jeff covers both the Surgical and Medical Cardiology floors. He rounds with the cardiothoracic surgery team and participates during multidisciplinary hospitalist rounding on the Medical Cardiology floor. Jeff also takes care of dosing consults for medications such as warfarin and vancomycin on his floors. Teaching philosophy: My top priority is for students to walk away with the knowledge needed to practice pharmacy safely and effectively. In the classroom I provide as much material as possible for students to learn the material while my expectation for students are that they arrive to class prepared and seek help when needed. Outside of the classroom and on rotations, I expect that students start to become more independent since they will be practicing on their own in less than a year. Therefore, when I precept students I serve as a guide and a resource while also ensuring that the students receive the practice they need to be successful.
