Alyse Knorr writes poetry, fiction, video game history and lyrics for contemporary classical music. Her writing employs hybrid narrative forms such as the novel-in-verse and offers innovative new approaches to character, setting and the lyric address. Her lyrics have been performed at Carnegie Hall and her poetry is permanently installed on a wall of the New York City Public Library's East Harlem branch.
Knorr's most recent poetry collections include Every Last Thing (The Word Works 2025); Wolf Tours (Fulcrum Press 2024); and Ardor (Gasher Press 2023), a Lambda Literary Award finalist. Her book Mega-City Redux (Green Mountains Review 2017) won the 2016 Green Mountains Review Poetry Prize, selected by Olena Kalytiak Davis. She is also the author of the poetry collections Copper Mother (Switchback Books 2016); Annotated Glass (Furniture Press Books 2013); and four chapbooks. Her work has appeared in The New Republic, POETRY Magazine, Alaska Quarterly Review and The Southern Review, among others. Knorr's non-fiction books GoldenEye (Boss Fight Books 2022) and Super Mario Bros. 3 (Boss Fight Books 2016) blends memoir, academic research and investigative journalism to tell the story of two of the most influential video games of all time.
