Wladimir Márquez-Jiménez was born in Maracay, Venezuela. He studied Literature at the Universidad Católica Andrés Bello (1987-1992). In 2005 he obtained a Master's degree in Social Economics and NGO Administration at the University of Barcelona, Spain. In 2014, he earned his Ph.D. in Spanish at the University of Colorado at Boulder. He currently teaches Spanish and Portuguese in the Department of Classical and Modern Languages and Literatures. He is a specialist in Latin American Literature of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. His research interest has focused on the study of literary representations of pirates, bandits and maroons in the Caribbean, Central America, and Brazil. Lately his interest has expanded to the study of sequential art and graphic narratives in Spain and Latin America.

En el año 2005 obtuvo un Máster en Economía Social y Administración de ONG en la Universitat de Barcelona, España. En el año 2014, obtuvo su doctorado en Español en la Universidad de Colorado en Boulder. Actualmente enseña español y portugués en el Departamento de Lenguas y Literaturas Clásicas y Modernas de Regis University en Denver, Colorado. Es especialista en Literatura Latinoamericana de los Siglos XIX y XX. Su interés de investigación se ha concentrado en el estudio de las representaciones literarias de piratas, bandidos y cimarrones en el Caribe, Centro-América y Brasil. Últimamente su interés se ha expandido al estudio del arte secuencial y las narrativas gráficas en España y América Latina.
